"Holy crap..." Rose dumbfoundly declared... as Artemis stood before her. Unmasked. "What the hell are you doing!?"

"My name is Artemis Crock" she then said point-blank. "My father was Lawrence Crock, aka Sportsmaster... and my mother was Paula Nguyen, aka the Huntress. Both supervillains"

Rose sat stupified upon the floor. She was really at a loss for words, especially in light of what Batman did just previously within this room.

"I... I don't understand" Rose was truely at a loss for words. Why in god's name would she reveal this to her of all people?

Artemis picked up the knocked over seat on the floor, and stood it up right to sit down.

"I thought" she shook her head, "I don't know. I thought maybe you should see the real me. Figured it would be the only way you'd trust what I had to say."

"Well... Artemis Crock" Rose replied with a stinging and adversarial tone, "Must be pretty damn important" she half-laughed.

"When I heard about your past, when I got a good look at you. I saw myself, Rose. I saw myself before I became a card-carrying superhero."

Rose was honestly preplexed, but after looking Artemis over in a silent but quick up-and-down. But staring into her unmasked eyes. "You... you've got some darkness in you, don't ya? It's in the eyes, they... they always give away everything."

It was painful to admit, but Artemis nodded. "Yeah. I've killed people before."

"How old? Your first, I mean?" Rose asked with a twisted smile.

"...... 11" Rose nearly burst out laughing, amazed at Artemis' admission. "Wow... I mean, heh ha ha ha! I was 13!" He chuckling slowly faded into a pale but sad imitation of laughter.

"It's not something I'm proud of. It haunts no matter what good deeds I do. Being forced by my father to do it doesn't help... doesn't change what I did or how much I bitterly regret it everyday."

The words hurt than the bruises inflicted earlier by the Batman. Rose knew them all too well as she turned her head in shame and acknowledgement of the same guilt she's haunted by. And she doesn't even have the excuse of being forced by Daddie to kill all those people, she had only herself to blame by choice.

"I wanted to change. Wanted so desperatly to do good, but I was afraid that my past would make it impossible. In my case, I had Green Arrow and the Batman to allow me the chance, despite my mistakes."

"And what... your now here offering me that chance or something? Thought I was your dark reflection" Rose bite back with her sharp tongue and a wild look in her eyes.

"Despite your perpecinty for killing, I think I can see that deep down you want to do good. You wouldn't have bothered to save Queen Mera and Kaldur from assassination if you didn't."

Rose had a witty retort for why she helped spare the Atlanteans, in a unique way that ended up with more bodies. But for once she stayed silent.

"Your on the precipice, Rose. And I'm going out a limb by offering you this opportunity. I want to help, and I think you can help us as well as yourself"

"By saving some more god damn Atlanteans, you mean?"

"Something like that"

"I'd honestly tell you people if I knew where they were"

"I think you do know... but just don't realize it. Any information you've got could be critical to get them the hostages out alive. It would be an invaluable first step for you, Rose."

"You think you know me, Artemis. But I don't think I'm worth the trouble of saving. No matter how many lives I save on the side, no matter what benefits you can offer for club membership... there's no changing what I am. I NEED to kill Deathstroke... it's all I really have left to drive me. And there's nothing in the world that can curb that, or change what I've done. I can't help you people, alright?! I can't... can't let anything or ANYONE get in my way."

"I'm sorry to hear that... I really am"

"Heh. Well you're not taking it half as bad as that psycho boss of yours" she pointed at the bruising he left from the previous interrogation. "Throws me around like a ragdoll, then gives me some malarky about having to make it look... genuine. Believable."

"Batman... wait, what did he say? Exactly?"

"He... he said you'd be done here after him to try and convince me to help. I'm guessing he didn't figure on you taking that mask off for me!"

This didn't make any sense to Artemis. She knew Batman worked in strange and mysterious ways, prepared for everything. But this was...

"He told me to tell you some number. A code. You'd recognize it or something. I didn't want to believe any of this crap until... you... you"

"Rose. What number did he tell you to remember?'

"....
1-0-8"

As Artemis' mask began to peel off, suddenly an electromagnetic discharge enveloped the entire deck. The pulse knocked Orca off her feet, since it exploded outward right from Cassandra's sword. A hidden device on the handle of the blade.

The lights and electronics were all dead. The live feed interrupted as that part of the oil rig went dark. All the tech and weapons these various supervillains had, especially the ehanced suits, went haywire. Gamesman lost his grip and toppled over like a domino as his systems went down. In the confusion, and no longer having a knife to her throat, Artemis tackled the Fisherman by his with her legs. A deathly grip and a swift kick to the face, before Artemis flipped while still handcuffed. She just missed a shot in the dark from Sonar at the control panel. His sonic tech was haywire, so his aim was off and the attack hit the Fisherman, as well as the cuffs and railings. They broke apart and allowed Artemis to escape.

More blind shots were going off from the still working Reach weaponry.

"CUT THAT OUT YOU IDIOTS!" the Fisherman bellowed as he got to his feet. By that point everything started to reboot and the lights came on. The feed was up and now for all the world to see, as Fisherman and the other villains looked over to find that Batgirl and Arrowette had now disappeared alongside Artemis. Same could be said about the sword responsible for their escape.

"WHERE ARE THEY, BALIN!?" the Fisherman asked the villainess in the whale-mech suit. She shrugged, which earned the roaring wrath of the Fisherman.

"They're only three girls with one sword and two broken bows" Sonar guffawed "How much trouble could they be?!"

"Plenty if they break their super-friends out!" the Fisherman slapped Sonar upside the head. "LOCK THIS PLACE DOWN, AND FIND THOSE BRATS!!!" He pointed over to a pair of asian triplets and yelled, "GET THE SHIPS READY! IF THEY SOMEHOW GET BACK-UP... WE'LL BE READY!" They raced off, as Fisherman then turned back to Sonar, "SHUT THE VIDEO DOWN, YOU IGNORAMEUS!"

Gamesman got his bearings again and retracted a dagger from his gauntlet. "I'll hunt them down if it's the last thing I-"

"Unfortunatly, you guys are gonna be busy!" a guard then said aloud to the costumed villains, his face hidden in the shadows.

"Who said that?" SeaQuake glanced over in confusion. Before he was blasted by the Reach rifle the guard was carrying.

The tall guard stepped out of the shadows, removing his cap to reveal he was already wearing a yellow mask underneath. GUARDIAN. Joined right beside him, with all this going down on the still running feed, BUMBLEBEE shifted into her normal sized form. Armed with stingers as she then zapped Sonar as he reached to shut off said feed. "No touchie!" she replied, as his knuckles burned from the spark.

"I think the right question you guys need to ask... is what time it is" Guardian corrected the villains.

Maxie Zeus stormed up to the top level, as the other costumed villains descended upon there with him. Fisherman readied his razor-sharp reels as he glared at the two heroes.

"Okay, kiddies" Orca pounded her fists, "What time... is it?"

The two heroes rolled their eyes as they prepared for a certain someone's arrival. Pointing in his direction.

"IT'S MORPHIN' TIME!"

Another figure from across the way, shrouded likewise in the shadows and in disguise, burst into a brightening ball of energy after slamming his fists. Then in a jolt, as if another beam of energy surged into him from a distance, he charged into the armed sentries and non-costumed Watchmen on the lower decks. The energy burst hurtled dead-center onto the deck, before the villains, and from it stepped forward a single fiery costumed figure.

"Firestorm!?" Mister Twister proclaimed in shock, at the entrance of this superhero. The rest of the villains backed up a step when he aimed a fist at them, the Fisherman and Orca did not. Firestorm smiled smuggly, as Bumblebee and Guardian back him up. He loosened his fist then aimed at Orca.

"Hey blubber-butt!" his dual-voice challenged her, as he gave her a fighting stance and beckoned her with a hand motion as if to say Come and Get it.

"That's IT!" she roared as she came charging at him. Her footsteps rocking the deck.

"Oh, lord" Dr. Stein's mental voice said as fists started flying alongside laser blasts.

Down below, as the fight ensued, Mortimer Walsh (aka Scavenger) tried to radio in. "What's going on up there?" he asked himself.

Orm offered no explaination, he continued to bind the unconcious Rose's arms and legs with an industrial strength metal chain.

"Something's going down, I can feel it!" he nervously stated. "We finish these two off now, and then we get to that Reach ship and get the heck out of here!"

"The very thing your group has sworn against, is supplying the weapons and the very marching orders" Kaldur smugly pointed out, "So much for not turning tail on behalf of business, Mortimer" earned Walsh's irritation, but Orm stopped him in his tracks.

"If the Mariner's Watch is finished... then OUR business with these rednecks is concluded, Kaldur'ahm" the former Ocean-Master replied.

"Does he do all your speaking for you?"

Scavenger lashed out again. "You think I enjoy working for this freak! He's got something on me, so I help him play these fish-hating morons... like a harp from hell!"

"How do you stand to profit from aiding human terrorists? Ones that have sworn all Atlanteans as enemies of their agenda?!"

"I'm doing what I've always done best... cementing war against the surface that would inevitable remove my brother from the throne! Murdered sidekicks and impure Atlanteans, as the catalyst for such a war, is but the icing on the cake!"

"It was that same zealous war-mongering and conniving, that got you kicked out of the Light!"

"I... RESIGNED! You hear me?!" Orm pointed a finger at Kaldur in angered (and thinnly veiled) defense. Over his disgraceful removal from the Light. "I wasn't about to have my actions challenged by Ra's al Ghul, because of a dead child and some crazy clown!"

"How far the prince has fallen" Kaldur weakly smiled despite his condition. "Enough of this!" Orm huffed. He and Walsh finished binding Rose, as she laid at the edge of the pit of acid. Just as he was about to kick her in... a laugh echoed around the lab.

"Ooooh, noooo" Scaveneger weakly muttered. Every villain that's been to Gotham knew that laugh.

Just then a quick birdarang snapped the metal chain into pieces, knocking it on top of the town villains. Orm unleashed a magic kinetic burst to strike the unseen foe. But Nightwing appeared from mid-air, and grabbed hold of Kaldur and swung him with a thud onto the walkway below him.

Scavenger readied his weaponry, before Orm pulled him aside. "We don't have time! GET TO THE SHIP!" He then repulsed another blast at the two as he made his escape, slamming the door behind him.

" 'prised?" Nightwing asked in his usual lingo, while handing his friend a water bottle to get him back into condition. Kaldur slowly got to his feet. "I will be better" he said with a sigh, while loosening Rose's metal chains. "This is not exactly... how Manuever 1-0-8 is suppose to go" he said to Nightwing.

108 was code, for the incident on Santa Prisca. When they infiltrated enemy ranks and had them believed they'd double-crossed the team... when in actuality the team was led right to their location.

"Batman's been investigating these guys for a while, thought they had something to do with the Mad Hatter and a bunch of other disappearance cases. He thought he tracked down possible members and could follow them to this hideout, but after the attack he needed to do something fast for the hostages"

Just then, Rose started to come to, as she lunged upward with a gasp and looked around in a wild daze. "Where is... WHERE IS HE!?"

"You need to calm-"

She burst to her feet and raced for the door, before Nightwing stopped her half-crazed rage. "Look, I... I heard everything that went down, and I'm not gonna say it wasn't messed up. But for right now... you need to focus on the current situation. We'll get Walsh and sort everything out. I promise"

Rose's breathing was erratic, but after a second she started to calm down, started to breath normally and compose herself. Kaldur though could still see a broken look on her face, her whole life as she knew it irrevocably shattered by this revelation. About her father.

"If he and that Ocean guy-"

"They won't" Kaldur reassured her with a hand on her shoulder. Rose sighed. "It wasn't suppose to go down like this."

"I know" he nodded. "Batman must have put a tracking gel on his fists when he..."

"Made it look genuine, I know" Rose said, now aware that his methods had some strange and beneficial meaning to them. "It didn't make sense when the Bat told me. But Artemis, she... convinced me to go along with this crazy plan after she filled me in... and volunteered to help. I was so suppose to make it look like I turned on you guys, and have her alone taken as a hostage!"

"More bad guys than we anticipated, unfortunately" Nightwing explained, "Especially Mister Twister" Kaldur added. "After the ship returned empty, we knew you needed back-up and pronto" Nightwing also elaborated "Tracked Rose's position to here, then me and a few others replaced the members Batman had under investigation. We slipped onboard with the regular shifts, and meanwhile ARGUS and Aquaman's forces should be here in no time!"

"I'm.. I'm going after Orm!" Rose said in stern declaration. "NO. You're going to go get the hostages, while me and Kaldur free Flash and the rest of the Team!" She coldly looked into Nightwing's eyes, as his hand held her arm back. She latched it off in a tiff, but shook her head in relenting acknowledgement. "Fine. Just don't get yourself killed... pretty boy"

"Don't have to worry about me!" Nightwing smiled as he kicked in the hatch door to the cooridoors, whilst the lights flickered and the rig creaked from the fight going on upstairs. "WASN'T TALKING ABOUT YOU!" Rose snickered, as she raced off down the hall, armed with a spare wrist computer lent to her by Nightwing.

The two heroes looked at each other for a second after that last comment from Rose.

"You sure Artemis and Bruce knew what they were doing... trusting her?" Dick asked Kaldur, as his strength returned to him and he was handled his water manipulators. "We'll see" was all he could answer, as he looked back behind them. She was an enigma, and they could only hope despite what she's learned... she'd be stable enough to save some more lives this evening.

Firestorm was revelling in turning the alien weaponry into rubber fish (which was hard enough for Dr. Stein, given the alien tech was harder to transmute than normal Earth guns). Bumblebee and Guardian were pounding away, holding their own against these villains and serving as a distraction. In the deepest bowels fo the drilling rig, a section cordined off for the Atlantean hostages, the various humanoid fishpeople (wearing power-inhibiting collars) sprang up in alarm after hearing a yell and the sound of gunfire down the hall.

Black Jack (a bearded wannabe pirate) and Dagon (wears a funky demon costume and is able to manipulate water) readied themselves and opened the door. A single, and slender, figure was walking towards them. Her hands held high as she whistled STYX's "Come Sail Away".

"Holy sh-, it's that-that..." before Dagon could finish that sentance, Rose fired off dual pistols that caught the two off guard. Black Jack whipped out a retractable Reach blade and started swinging at Rose. But she in turn blocked with strike with the guns, clashing sparks between the steel and energy discharge. La'gaan and the others tried to break free and help, but to no avail as they were chained up in heated cells. But one dark-haired woman held her hands to the glass, as Dagon unfurled a water whip and prepared to strike. She focused all her energy on the water, and suddenly it manipulated towards he as it was still in Dagon's hands. He was thrown with the water and smashed into the glass, shattered it. The heat turned off in that cell.

Black Jack was caught off guard by this development, giving Rose just enough time to butt him in the skull with both pistol handels. She then roundhoused the sword out of his hand and then gave him a kick in the gut that put him down for the count.

She turned to attack Dagon with the blade, but was suprised to find him whipped into the adjacent cells by another burst of water. He was now down for the count as well. Rose then proceeded to shut off the power and open the cells. The various Atlanteans crawled out as their strength began to return to them. La'gaan helped them out and to their sea legs, before silently turning to Rose.

"Sorry. I would have told you on the ride over, but... had to make it look as-"

"You don't need to explain, just help me get these guys out of here. Then I need to have some words with that Fisherman"

"Oh, that won't be a problem at... woah!" Rose yelled as she barely missed being hit by another spout of water from out of the floor. She and La'gaan turned to the confused Latina girl controlling the water.

"Watch were you're aiming that stuff!" Rose barked, losing her composure.

"I... I don't know how I did that!" she nervously replied while looking at her hands. "Until a month ago I couldn't even breath underwater, either!"

"She's human?" a squid-boy named Torpo befuddly asked. Rose shrugged, how was she suppose to know. "At this point I'll believe" she mumbled.

"What's your name?" La'gaan than asked, as Rose and the others cautiously approached her.

"Lo... Lorena Marquez"

At the other end of the rig, Batgirl and Arrowette were under heavy fire inside the lab filled with sensory deprivation tanks. Strom, an ex-admiral, fired at them with dual alien blasters, while another armed thugs and military types shot at the duo in cover behind a turned over table. Cissie had no arrows and Cassandra's utility belt was in Strom's possesion. Things turned for the worse however, when two foes burst in through the entrance they fought tooth and nail to get into.

Toxin and Kar'shon the Shark stared them down with sinister smiles.

"Yoooou might want to surrender, nahw" Toxin sneered, while the Shark gritted his razorsharp teeth while wetting his lips.

Before Toxin could reach for his assorted bandoleir of chemical vials... the pair were snatched up by a grapple line and launched hanging into the ceiling with a scream.

Nightwing came running in behind them, along with Kaldur as he water-whipped bullet and laser fire.

"You can borrow these!" Nightwing tossed Cissie a few goodies from his utility belt. Arrowette smiled as she threw a smoke pellet (or three) at the gunmen. Kaldur used the cover to charge right into them, and disable them with a few well-placed blows. Strom caught sight of the Atlantean and was prepared to fire. Just then... a finger tapped on his shoulder. He turned around to suddenly see that Batgirl had snuck out behind him. Cassandra then belted him in the mouth and knocked him to the ground, while taking back her utility belt.

Nightwing headed over to the tanks to release his teammates, but Kar'shon slashed out of his bindings, all while the fat Toxin struggled to break free from his. Kar'shon lept on top of Nightwing with a thud, and viciously tried to claw and bite. Kaldur electrified his water spouts and was able to knock the man-shark right off with a shock. Convulsing on the floor, Nightwing was helped up... unaware that Toxin had squeezed a fist out of his bindings while upside down. He had a single acidic and explosive vial. With all his strength, he hurled it at the two.

"LOOK OUT!" Batgirl shouted.

Before the two could look up and react, Arrowette had thrown a perfectly timed birdarang at the twirling vial. Mid-air. It deflected off and went hurtling right towards one of the deprivation tanks to the side.

The compound struck the tank and exploded with violent force. Just enough force to melt off the door and let loose the water inside. "TOXIN!, yoooou idiot!" Strom said while nursing his bruises on the floor. Batgirl kicked him groin. "Quiet"

Meanwhile, the occupant inside started to come to. Able to hear and move about, he quickly whipped off the breathing apparatus that blocked his sight and other senses. "Oh, sheeeeeeeei-" Toxin said in alarm, to say the least, as the young Green Lantern burst out of the tank in glowing green energy.

"IN BRIGHTEST DAAAAAAAY"

The whole rig could hear his booming voice.

"IN BLAAAAAACKEST NIIIIIIGHT"

La'gaan and the Atlanteans were quite shaken by the deafening oath. Rose just smiled.

"NOOOOOOO EVIL SHAAAALL ESCAAAAPE MY SIGHT!"

Firestorm, Bumblebee, and Guardian were slightly distracted. Meanwhile Sonar and several other villains began to shake in their britches.

"LEEEET THOOOOSE WHO WORSHIP EVIL'S MIIIIGHT.... BEWAAAARE MY POWER"

Scavenger and the disguised Orm were hurrying to the lowest deck, where most of the ships and subs were stationed. Including the off-limits Reach ship. Ocean-Master was taken aghast by this developement.

"GREEEEEN LAAAAAANTEEEERN'S LIIIIIIIGHT!"

The blinding green light engulf the whole rig, and could be seen for miles and miles out at sea. It was the perfect signal, for Atlantean and ARGUS ships fast approaching the coordinates. As did Batman, aboard the Batplane, as he inclined upward into the night's sky... reaching the peak of the clouds and against the moon he plummeted back on the attack.

Topside, many of the costumed villains (including Sonar) turned tail and began to flee below. To escape on all their ships, while the Fisherman angrily watched. "COOOOWARDS!" He howled with fury as his remaining forces fought with Firestorm. "Scavenger... SCAVENGER WHERE ARE YOU!" he radioed to no response.

Fisherman then gasped and ducked, as Orca was thrown hurtling towards him. Fisherman scowled, as he then fired off several reels at the young heroes, to not effect, as Firestorm melted or transmuted every shot. He then radioed in to the triplets he ordered about many minutes before, "Kill the Leaguers! Even if you have to take this damn rig down with them!" He declared to the brothers on the other end.

Back to the tanks, Flash was helped out by Nightwing and Kaldur. Batgirl and Arrowette freed the rest of the team, while Kyle Rayner mopped up the villains and bent a steel beam around them.

"A little dramatic, don't you think?" Flash half-laughed to Kyle. He sternly looked over, then after a split-second took that comment to heart and shrugged.

"Superstitious and cowardly lot" Raven then made a point of stating.

Solstice and Static got the feeling back into their feet, whilst unfurling their hands and checking on the strength of their meta-abilities. Everything seemed good and they gave each other thumbs-up.

"Sooo, let me guess... this was a 1-0-8 gone horribly wrong?" Flash guessed, Kaldur and Nightwing begrudingly nodded.

"What's a 108?" Cissie asked for the younger members.

"It was a set-up for Rose" Nightwing tried to explain "She and Artemis would get caught and lead us all here. Stop the bad guys"

"Oooh, so it wasn't all part of the plan to have us thrown into fishtanks and nearly get our SECRET IDENTITIES EXPOSED?!" Cissie then angirly lashed out. The angry looks of the younger heroes returned the sentiment.

"Yeah, we all messed up" Nightwing painfully admitted.

"We can deal with all this later" Raven then calmly got the rookies back into the mission mindset. "Right now we have nearly three dozen supervillains on the loose"

"What she said" Kyle then told her in agreement, as he began to hover off the ground.

"Ca't believe me and GL let that wannabe Deathstroke get the drop on us!" Flash said, his pride wounded by the Gamesman managing t subdue and capture the pair of them, which started this mess to begin with. "Wait... whe-where's Artemis?" Flash then asked his oldest friends, with great concern.

"Sca... Scavenger" Batgirl then spoke up. Meaning she was somewhere looking for the 2nd in command... meaning she'd be running right into Ocean-Master.

"We need to find Orm before he-"

"Orm's here?!" Flash interrupted Kaldur.

Solstice looked around for explaination, to which Arrowette whispered over to her "Aquaman's evil brother."

"Oh, right. Like Scar" she said with a perky smile and hesitant realization. Kyle rolled his eyes, and Cissie face-palmed. Raven showed semi-emotion with a faint laugh. That earned everyone's confused glances.

"I... understood that reference. It wasn't like I was completely sheltered in that Tibetan monestary"

"Whatever... we can't let any one of these guys escape before reinforcements arr-" Static stopped himself and turned to the senior three, "Reinforcements are coming, right?" The three senior members noded, reassuring Static, as he dropped his goggles on.

"Okay. So first thing's-" before Flash could come up with a game plan, a bellowing roar filled the air. A deafening metallic noise.

"Don't look at me!" Kyle cried aloud, from the blood-curdling noise, almost like a siren.

On a lower deck, Rose and the Atlanteans were trying to find an open hatch to the outside... to fresh water and a means to escape. "What was that?" Rose said with unnerving alarm, to the noise in the air. "We need to get out of here" La'gaan reiterated

Suddenly Lorena found one and pointed towards it, "THERE!" Rose took a slash to the lock with the Reach blade, while La'gaan smashed it open with a ram in his "bloated" form.

The eight Atlanteans leaped out from the hatch, reaching an outside gangway that stretched around the entirety of the rig. But the hostages and the two heroes were stopped cold by a horrible sight before them.

"That's... going to be a problem" La'gaan then pointed out the obvious, as a giant ship began to rise up from beneath the ocean's surface. The source of the deafening roar.

At a porthole near the tube station, the various teammembers spotted the very same colossal ship rising up. "Is that one of our subs?" Arrowette then nervously asked. Nightwing nodded a definate no.

"Did any of you see a pair of brothers three. Sri-Lankan?" Kaldur asked aloud, recognizing the ship's shape. Which now looked almost squid-like. Batgirl raised a faint hand.

"I was afraid of that"

"How... bad is that thing?" Solstice then asked, only to be answered by the hail of the colossal metal mosntrosity. It's roar now joined by two more deafening calls. Two more ships now rose up beside it. Didn't take long to realize these were any sort of ship or submerging vessel of the normal sort. These had the shape and form of humanoid-like creatues...

These things were called Torpedo Man, Claw, and Magnetron, and were driven by Sri Lankan triplets who used them to attack and hijack oil ships in the Indian Ocean.

THEY WERE A TRIO OF 20 STORY MECHS... THE AWESOME THREESOME. AND THEY WERE NOW ARMED TO THE TEETH WITH WEAPONS UPGRADED BY REACH TECH.

"What was that about y'all not needing Tye for a covert-ops mission?" Static thinnly stated in an I-told-you-so about Apache Chief.

Just how many enemies does Aquaman have? And the Awesome Threesome? Nice incarnation of making them into giant mechas.

A 1-0-8 is pretty clever, had me fooled that there's no way out, but you pulled it off with style.

Can't wait for more updates for this chapter.
